Batman on tour. Testing the Rolex GMT-Master II
Today, the steel GMT-Master II is available in two versions, differing only in the color of the bezel: the Pepsi and our test watch, the Batman. Both are equipped with a new movement and a five-row Jubilee strap that was once reserved only for the Datejust model. Rolex had previously equipped the gold and Rolesor (steel and gold) GMT-Master II models with the sportier three-row Oyster strap. Rolex designed the Jubilee strap for the Datejust in 1945; however, as early as 1959, the replica Rolex GMT-Master was also available with the Jubilee strap option. Like the GMT-Master II’s Oyster bracelet, the inner bracelet is polished and the outer bracelet has a brushed finish.
Batman or Pepsi? The Batman color combination is somehow more reserved; the Pepsi is closer to the original.
The Jubilee bracelet is very comfortable to wear. Its small links fit snugly together and do not pull on delicate wrist hair. The Oyster bracelet is also comfortable thanks to its curved links. The bracelet and case are still made of non-corrosive 904L stainless steel, which Rolex has recently started calling “Oyster Steel”.
Instead of an Oyster clasp with a Jubilee strap, like on the replica Rolex Datejust, Rolex has an Oysterlock folding clasp here, just like on the Sport. It has an extra safety lever, but looks very similar – both have Easylink extensions that extend the strap by 5 mm. This practical mechanism is helpful when higher temperatures or physical activity may result in an increase in wrist size. Half of the links can be folded out of the clasp to make the bracelet longer, without any noticeable difference in appearance.
The high-quality clasp on the Jubilee bracelet is near perfect in both workmanship and operation. When closed, the folding safety lever is integrated into it. Opening the safety lever by lifting the Rolex crown reveals a lever that is also easily lifted to fully open the clasp.
The elegant Jubilee bracelet has a practical Oyster folding clasp and safety lever. The extension of the easy linkage lever gives it some breathing room.
The winding crown is also simple to use to wind the fake watch after it has been unscrewed from the locked position. In the first pull position, the normal hour hand can be advanced forward or backward in hours to set a new interval time.
In addition, for the GMT-Master II, the bezel can be used to temporarily set another time zone. For example, if you are in the United States and working with a company in Europe, simply turn the bezel so that the Rolex GMT-Master II displays the time in the desired time zone and you will know at a glance if your business contact is available. All in all, the GMT-Master II offers extremely useful time zone functions.
