What will we call the new left-handed Rolex GMT Master II?
Rolex’s GMT Master models have got many nicknames over the years. From the classic Root Beer to Pepsi to the recent Blue and Black Batman, the only people more creative than the team of Rolex designers are the watch lovers who come up with unofficial names for them. What will watch enthusiasts name this new GMT Master model, unveiled at the 2022 Geneva Watch Fair?
Rolex’s latest model – Ref. 126720VTNR – is for all intents and purposes a mirror image of the standard GMT model. The crown and date are both at 9 o’clock on the watch, which leads to some questions as to whether the Swiss brand inadvertently put the movement in the wrong direction! The crown and date on this watch are at 9 o’clock. The watch is powered by the same model number. 3285 – a 4 Hz, 70-hour power reserve internal movement, the same as the standard GMT Master II model in the brand’s line-up.
This left-handed GMT Master comes from the left-hand side – it’s the last thing anyone expected fake Rolex to launch at the show, but it’s already garnered accolades and the waiting list is sure to be as long as all the other Rolex models. The crown is perfectly positioned for those who wear their watches on the right wrist, and the date is at 9 o’clock, easily glimpsed from underneath the shirt sleeve. This may be a move by sister brand Tudor, which already has a left-handed Pelagos model in its collection, but no one expected copy Rolex itself to add such a niche watch to its collection.
