19-04 #BoycottSpurs protest review statement

AshleyOut.com would like to express its gratitude to Northumbria Police, Newcastle City Council and, most importantly, each and every Newcastle United fan involved for their part in helping to create, promote and organise a very successful boycott and protest on Sunday 19th of April 2015.

protest1

Fans of all generations took the decision to stay away from the home game vs Tottenham Hotspur and thousands also protested loudly and peacefully outside of St. James’ Park, all uniting behind one simple message: ‘ASHLEY OUT’. The pictures beamed around the world of huge sections of empty seats sent a strong message to Mike Ashley and those watching: the fans of Newcastle United have had enough and are willing to put up a fight and make sacrifices to reclaim their club.

Reports vary as to the true number of fans who passed through the turnstiles and we will not speculate on this. We simply ask everyone to judge for themselves, based on the pictures in this statement, whether the club’s ‘official’ attendance of 47,427 appears legitimate, or if this is yet another clear example of a club lying to its own fans to present itself in a better light?

boycott1

Many fans did, of course, decide to attend the game despite the organised boycott and we would like to make it clear that, even if their views differ from our own, we respect our fellow fans who decided they could not go without missing this particular game. Our aim is not to divide supporters of our great club but rather to unite them to enable us to achieve our objective of removing Mike Ashley from power. We are confident that a number of different forms of protests we have planned will allow every disgruntled fan to express their own discontent in ways they will feel comfortable with.

boycott3

#BoycottSpurs was not an idea proposed by AshleyOut.com, but as we hope to do in the future where possible and appropriate, we supported it both financially and by providing manpower. We created and distributed thousands of promotional posters in the week leading up to the game, created large banners which were present at the protests, produced twenty thousand flyers and distributed them to matchgoers as well as boycotters and also provided two ‘AshleyOut mobiles’ which toured the region to promote the campaign and boycott on the day of game.

boycott4

It is clear this was a very successful start to what will be a long campaign. It has only been two weeks since AshleyOut.com launched and in that time a lot of progress has been made. We’ve undoubtedly raised awareness about Mike Ashley’s disastrous ownership of Newcastle United and this has been reflected by a vast increase in scrutiny from local, national and international media. We’ve made an encouraging start to a campaign that aims to empower all Newcastle United fans and to help them do whatever they can to remove Mike Ashley from his position as club owner. However, there is obviously much more work to be done.

boycott2

We will shortly release our future plans and hope that all fans continue to work together to help us reclaim our club.

Ashley Out!

  • Kris HARGRAVE

I find the whole thing humiliating. Look at what ashley has done for this club. The way we are treating him is disgusting! Bailed us out when we were at our lowest and saved us from our relegation! What about his INTEREST FREE LOAN. Get behind him. The best is yet to come!!!

    • Andy

Are you a moron? Guess you are happy with the status quo??

    • VCTF

      Open your eyes man!

      Have you forgotten:
      Relegation?
      The Wise-Keegan debacle?
      Getting dropped by Adidas?
      Joe Kinnear?
The sale of our best players?
The lack of commitment to cup competitions?
      The stadium renaming?
      Shirt sponsorship by a loanshark?

The way Ashley has treated the fans has been disgusting, not the other way around.

    • Gary Ramm

Yes mate. Except from the relegation he led us to, he saved us from relegation.

      • Gary Linney

        He’s no mate, mate!
No doubt a mackem troll coming out of his hole!

    • Unbelievable views

    • Guest 2

Interest free = free wall to wall advertising for SD + our retail operation (not free at all then).
It = the sale of Gallowgate land he’s pocketed.
It = 18 million added to the Club ‘debt’ for his relegation fiasco

I can;t believe ayone is as moronic as your comments suggest. Mackem troll most likely.

    • Mackem – move on

      • Sidco Styli

        Dick

      Mackem TRoll

If you;re going to come on our comment boards don;t make it so obviious mate. LaLas

      • Sidco Styli

        Dick! You’re a ass hole!

      • Sidco Styli

        Dick

    • Sidco Styli

These fans are morons, absolute disgusting behaviour to shout scum and we can see you sneaking out to the true fans that attended the games! Please stay away more often! Also there was only about 300 boycotters there were never 1000’s!! Absolute morons!

      • Steven Brown

The empty seats in the stands seem to indicate that there were a lot of people boycotting and opted to stay at home instead of participating in the boycott rally.

        • Sidco Styli

The reported 30k attendance is way of mark, maybe 47k is too however there were only 300 or so protesters when it’s been reported there were thousands.

Also it’s claimed this was a success?? I seen no one who held up a Ashley out sign in any part of stadium and no mass outburst against the regime and I was in the gallowgate. See my photo of the boycotters after the game. Only a few hundred mate..

          • Steven Brown

Every considered the possibility that any signs brought in got confiscated? I have seen that happen at sporting events here in the US.

      • Colin Gibson

You are the moron. Hopelessly addicted to being stitched up. Like a sick junkie who will inject anything, even if it doesn’t bear any resemblance to your drug. Why not just roll over, and just hope that Ashley (btw, had you done your homework, you would realise that scum is exactly what he is) doesn’t stick it in too far – if he has one.

        • Sidco Styli

For one, I’m not backing Ashley in any way I am merely condoning the fucking moronic tits that sang degrogatary remarks to fans who actually attended the game, ie my six year old daughter who attended her first game! Yeah very big and clever!

          • Darryn

You chose to take your daughter to the BOYCOTTSPURS game as her first ever football match.

            Good Choice ….No really !!!

          • Sidco Styli

You have a problem with that?

          • Colin Gibson

You really are thick! Look up the word “condone”

          • Felix Cox

Jesus Christ you know nout about football.

      • Felix Cox

We have a right to protest about this crap manager, move on please

    • Steven Clarke

Sounds like you bought the Mycashley ticket. He had to pay the debt off because he bought the club. The debt was 70 million then when he took over it went upto 130 million. Nothing has been paid off, why?

    • Felix Cox

What do you mean “Look at what ashley has done for this club” Oh yeah, signed a nobhead and lied a bit and then talked about how much money he is making, great right?

  • Leazes Ender

Maybe the way forward to maximise attention hit…..is to used the money on a cessna with a message…. maybe for an away game too!

Theres no getting away from a heck of a lot of empty seats though!

    • mickey667

I think we need to start targeting is other business interests as well. Sports direct, shareholder meetings etc.

We need more banners and protests and importantly i think we should boycott each and every game televised on Sky. That will make Ashley a much less attractive prospect for sponsors and advertisers and means we can all watch the match as well in the pub. 🙂

      • Sidco Styli

        You are a complete idiot!

    • Sidco Styli

      What a fucking prick!

  • Taters3

From those photos, there are more empty seats than I thought on Sunday. It’s pretty impressive, if those are really reflective of the boycotting numbers.

I really like the tone of this article: It’s important not to reinforce the divisions in the fans. Keep inviting others in to join.

    • Sidco Styli

Empty seats?? You not motd?? Empty seats?? It’s was fucking rammed you prick!

      • Taters3

        You seem nice.

The pictures posted with this article show many empty seats.

  • Rob Scott

A well balanced review of the day and also the approach to the boycott I think it’s important to emphasise that Mr Ashley is only interested in profit not trophies or glory simply cash so we have to starve him as much as we can so I suggest hanging on to your renewal forms as long as you can and boycott the club shops and merchandise on line and keep away from the match time hospitality and club bars – This is the only way we will get rid of is to have a well planned well structured process to minimise his cash flow and profits only then will he be off like a rat up a cockney drainpipe!!

  • NUFC Base

Great work so far. I look forward and fully support any future plans.

    • Sidco Styli

      Utter prick!

      • Felix Cox

Shut up please, just because YOU think one thing, that doesn’t mean everyone else should think the same, YOU are the most annoying, insensitive and RUDE person I have EVER seen in my LIFE!

  • mickey667

    How about #StayafterSwansea.?

We could all congregate in the Gallowgate end once the match finishes and refuse to leave the ground.

I remember the Liverpool fans doing this in their campaign against their yank owners (which they won) and it looked amazing.

There is a #boycottswansea idea floating around the internet and while i think another Boycott is fantastic idea i’m not sure just repeating the same tactic will work, more likely it will run out of steam if we have no other horizon of action in the bag.

Just an idea, but we need a diversity of tactics to keep it disruptive, fresh and exciting, and keep the media interested.

Anyway, good work lads, keep it up

    • Sidco Styli

      What a burk!

      • Colin Gibson

        Is Mike Ashley your “uncle”?

        • Sidco Styli

No but he Kits me out in the latest Lonsdale fashions! 😉

Just because ONE person thinks what you think, (only you, you loner) it doesn’t mean you can start shouting around every bloody comment letting everyone know how big and clever you are, don’t like the site? Want to suck on Ashley? (you obviously do, don’t argue with me) Then get out and go back to Mike Ashley’s bedroom you NOB.

        • Sidco Styli

Felix you’re a cock by name and a cock by nature. It’s fans like you who are exactly what’s wrong with this club. I’m sure you held your Pardew out sign with pride and look at us now. Fancy aborting the team when we are in a relagation battle when you need everyone behind the team. You must be very proud of yourself and the 300 other boycotters for all you have achieved … Frankly fuck all if you’re gonna be honest with yourself. If you’re not gonna support the shirt then fuck off and stay away you fucking bell hat!!

          • Felix Cox

I didn’t have a Pardew out sign XD XD XD XD XD XD

            Oh how embarrassing for you!

  • Gary Linney

TOON REVOLUTION! Howay lads & lasses, this IS just the beginning! Let’s do it!

    ASHLEY OUT!

    • Sidco Styli

Turn up to the game you fucking prick!

      • Gary Linney

Oh Yeah, Intelligently said…. we want the fat b*5tard out of wor club man… pandering to him will not do it. You’re feeding him, you moron!

        • Sidco Styli

i hope he leaves just for you pal. Let’s see where we are then eh! Fucking prick.

  • Sidco Styli

Barely 300 protesters!!! Where’s the 1000s here?? 300 morons if you ask me!

    • Colin Gibson

      Thick fuck

      • Sidco Styli

      • Sidco Styli

        Gobshite! Lost ya tongue?

    • Felix Cox

Stop commenting with your clever topics, your’e probably from London or something

      • Sidco Styli

        Dick!

        • Felix Cox

Is that all you have to say? You’re so rude mate. Stay away from football, AND this site infact, you obviously don’t like the site, so why visit it? Beyond me.

  • Bob Day

Like your honesty particularly about the fans going. I went to the game as I have been doing for nearly sixty years. It was with heavy heart that I actually considered NOT going but I have my A4
Ashleyout.com paper and will no longer buy anything from any of his shops, the club shop or anything directly or indirectly to do with the man. He did not turn up on Sunday and I think that says a lot despite people saying the boycott and fans unrest will not bother him. I think it will. He does not give me the impression he is a man who likes criticism and people in the big business community will speak to him about it. I think Sunday is a small start in what can become an embarrassing scenario for him.

  • mactoon

I hear the actual figure of people passing trough the turnstiles on any matchday is provided to the police and you will be able to get this under the freedom of information act. What better way to prove how effective the boycott was? over to you….

  • Rakosi

From a long-distance fan, great work guys. I can’t go to most games anyway but will stay away forever until this is resolved. I pay a lot of money to attend a single home games, so for me it’s even more vital to watch a team that does the club justice.

  • Paul Wright

Congrats everyone. Look forward to a bright future. Cheers

  • Time is running out for this season I was hoping for sustained boycotting of all games. I myself won’t be back until Ashley has gone, that is my personal stance. Even without rallying cries from groups like this we all know what to do. This is not entertainment and we have nothing to get behind, so why go ?

    • Sidco Styli

      Stay away you cunt!

  • Colin Gibson

well done everyone who stayed away-but I would not be as charitable as the Ashleyout statement above, when referring to the Wongas who decided to attend. Whats wrong with you morons?

    • Sidco Styli

Mate fuck if, ya not even from Newcastle man!

      • Sidco Styli

        I mean fuck off

        • Felix Cox

          Neither is Ashley mate.

      • Colin Gibson

I’m from Heaton as a matter of fact you dick, not that it makes any difference. You remain a sucker who is quite happy to pay for shite. That is your (stupid) choice. It would still be a stupid choice if I lived in timbuctoo, where I could no doubt watch a football team not owned by a fat tat peddling cunt who thinks all NUFC fans are mugs.

    Hi Ashley out.com

Big fan of yours, I just wanted to share a message I’ve just sent to MAOC:
Hi MAOC. Big fan of your work and lifelong Ashley hater.

I just wanted to suggest to you a campaign to persuade Richard Branson to buy NUFC.

I’m sure I read somewhere he actually supports us (I might have been dreaming) but I think he’s the type of character that would pump some serious investment in and try to win!

I also heard he’s got some new show where you send videos to pitch new ideas to him or something along those lines. Might be an idea to look into.

You should also try and get the True Geordie on board (of YouTube fame and now on Twitter). He has a huge following (almost 100k on YouTube) and could be an important partner.

All the best and keep up the good work!

    Ray

  • Felix Cox

I am very happy this happened, why cant we do the same with Swansea? Weren’t we going to boycott Swansea in the 34th or 43rd minute? It’s past half time now!

  • Felix Cox

-WARNING, THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION, IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT, MOVE ON PLEASE!-

We sold Cabaye for about £20 mil, we replaced him with Luuk De Jong, CRAP

We make NO attempt to keep Remy

We are constantly selling our best players and replacing them with nobody, why? Because Ashley is too greedy!

WE DON’T WANT TO BE IN THE TOP 10 RICHEST CLUBS IN THE WORLD, WE’D RATHER BE IN THE TOP 10 BEST IN THE WORLD, WHO REMEMBERS THE GOOD OLD DAYS BEFORE ASHLEY OF ALWAYS FINISHING 2ND OR 3RD AND GETTING IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE EVERY SEASON, THIS WAS BEFORE ASHLEY, AS SOON AS HE JOINS IT ALL GOES TO CRAP!

  • trying to start off a public wonga shirt burning was bought one by my well meaning wife wont wear it burn the bloody things, makes a statement its good tv and will stop protesters wearing them and looking stupid. Anyone agree?

  • David Williams

I’m a long suffering Coventry fan, a team saddled with (we think) far worse owners than Ashley – not that we would want him if he finally realises how unpopular he is in Newcastle.
Fantastic boycott, I know how much it hurts to not go and watch your team (never went to Northampton when our owners moved us out if the Ricoh Arena), and also know how divisive these sort of actions can be, with people driving wedges between fans who all want one thing – a successful club.
Good luck to you, but be prepared for a long battle – Ashley seems to be the sort who doesn’t care what people think….
